Biographical Sketch

Lorenzo M. Narducci received his education at the University of Milano, Italy, and in 1966 he joined the faculty of Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1976 he joined the faculty of the Physics Department at Drexel University, where in 1987 he was named Francis K. Davis Professor of Physics. His areas of scientific expertise included quantum optics, laser physics and nonlinear optics.

Up to his death, he was an Editor of Optics Communications (1987-2006) and an Associate Editor for Physical Review A (1990-2006). In the latter capacity he handled manuscripts dealing with Quantum Optics and Matter Waves, including Bose-Einstein condensation phenomena.

Over his lifetime, Dr. Narducci authored nearly 200 publications. He was a Fellow of the American Physical Society and of the Optical Society of America. He was the recipient of the Drexel Research Award and the 1984 Lindback Award for distinguished teaching. He was awarded the 1991 Einstein Prize for Laser Science and the 1999 Lamb Medal of the Society for the Physics of Quantum Electronics.
